Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
