Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi-low starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of entrants can get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same approach in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem complicated at first, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing range of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have many individuals shooting for the high, and several shooting for the low hand.
