Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
