Seems like most people are constantly talking about pre-flop technique, so I wanted to talk a tiny bit about how I play soon after the flop. Maybe I can help others, or possibly they have advice to enhance my play.
I consider that two of the most crucial plays following the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive wager. Which is because these are the plays you produce if you havent hit a hand but you’ve got a very good drawing hand. Its easy to bet on a hand if you flop a monster. But I consider that these two are the finest approaches to wager on a drawing. Each one is wagered depending on you competition(s) and your postion. So here is how I wager on it, so tell me what you think.
Early Position – Tight Opponents:
A semi-bluff works fairly effectively in this position. Are available out betting and if a tight player didn’t hit a hand he will most likely lay down, and if he is unsure you might get a call. But watch out, if that tight player comes back more than the top it may perhaps be time to obtain away.
Early Position – Loose Opponents
It is were I like to accomplish a defensive bet. Come to a decision how quite a few chips you are willing to chance on your draw and wager. This really is usually a much lower bet than regular. It has been my experience that the loose player will usually just call a bet instead of re-raise. However, should you check to them, theyre additional likely to throw in far more chips than your willing to pay.
Late Location – Tight Competitors
This can be the greatest time to try and do a semi-bluff, particularly if most of the table checks. If that’s the case you will probaly pick up the pot now. If a gambler prior to has wager, you might have to determine if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he’ll probably go away since he was trying to steal the pot. When you feel he does, nicely then it is time to compute your odds, and make a decision if the pot odds are worth the call.
Late Position – Loose Competitors
This one can be a bit tricky, simply because it is tougher to put a loose player on a hand. And if your in late place against loose player, odds are they’ve already wager. That is were I usually decide to take a chance and are available back over the best of them and hope they do not call, and if they do, properly then its time to gamble. Odds are although even a loose player will go away in case you are available back strong enough.
Keep in mind though that these are moves I only produce immediately after the flop comes and I have a reasonable drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Possibly four to the flush or the open ended straight, for example.
