Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
