Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
